Funding Strategy
It is likely you are here because you need more resources, and that resource is likely monetary. However, if there is one thing you cannot afford to lose, it is time. Your passion is your mission, and it is difficult to dedicate yourself to this if you are spending the majority of your time seeking funds. Many organizations will find themselves applying for any and all funding they can find. Although this may seem like an ambitious position to take, it is often not efficient. A funding strategy provides a roadmap for opportunities that are the best fit and have the highest chance of success.

Testimonials
“I was fortunate to team up with Heidi Hanlon who assisted me with a grant application to the Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation. Her professional understanding and ability to research the various attachments requested assured that the submittal met the grant requirements. She edited the narrative so that the most important points were highlighted and clear and still fit within the word count parameters of the grant. With her assistance, the submittal was professionally done and submitted early. She was a joy to work with.”
— Judy Anderson, Chair, Friends of Warren Ballpark. Bisbee, Arizona
“Thank you, Heidi. I would just like to say as a small non-profit trying to make a big impact on our community working with you has been a pleasure. The process was smooth and your attentiveness to our needs was satisfying and professional. We look forward to working with you again in the future!”
— Tremikus Muhammad, Chair, Phoenix LOC
“Heidi Hanlon volunteered as a Grant Writer in our Grants Department at Abuse Refuge Org (ARO) from August 2021 through March 2022. During that time, Heidi held responsibilities to include researching and analyzing grant opportunities and qualifications, drafting grant applications, responding to emails, Slack messages and Asana tasks and reporting and coordinating with our Grants Manager for day to day activities. Heidi is dedicated, hardworking, and a fast learner. She has a positive attitude that makes her a pleasure to work with and we enjoyed having her on board as a volunteer. I highly recommend Heidi for any grant writing opportunities.”
— Kelly Dehn, NTIS L-5, Global Executive Director/Co-Founder, Abuse Refuge Org
“Heidi prepared an outstanding grant funding strategy proposal specifying the scope, fee, and schedule for her to do the heavy lifting so I could stay focused on what I needed to do. She followed an approach to grant research and strategy that eliminated the mystery of how to successfully fund a project or program. She organized an hour kick-off meeting with me to develop a Project Planning Toolkit. She completed the Toolkit and sent it back to me to confirm her understanding of the funding objectives. Once that step was complete, she filtered 100+ grants to select the top 20 grants worth further consideration. She confirmed the competitiveness of each grant, prioritizing the grants with at least a 20 percent chance of award. She then brought the draft Funding Strategy to me for discussion. With that information in hand, she developed a Funding Strategy, which was a straightforward memorandum specifying what planning is still needed to position for success and what grants to pursue and when. This Funding Strategy provided a clear roadmap, so efforts are focused on grants yielding the greatest likelihood of success and return on effort.”
